The City of Montpellier and Montpellier Mediterranean Metropolis create a local visor manufacturing unit in Cournonsec

Faced with the Covid-19 epidemic, Philippe Saurel, Mayor of the City of Montpellier and President of Montpellier Mediterranean Metropolis, has chosen to implement measures to contribute to the protection of agents present on the ground, serving the population.

For this, the City and the Metropolis of Montpellier have created a local visor manufacturing unit in partnership with the company Rupture Tech Consulting. This local production unit will be able to manufacture up to 1,500 to 2,000 protective visors each week.

CREATE PROTECTIONS FOR MOBILIZED AGENTS SERVING THE POPULATION

The City of Montpellier and Montpellier Mediterranean Metropolis are directly involved in the production of personal protective equipment (PPE) by creating a farm of ten 3D printers which produces 1,500 to 2,000 protective visors per week.

This personal protective equipment is intended for city officials, as well as officials from the municipalities of the Metropolis, the CCAS and nursing homes, who are in daily contact with the public. Depending on the production capacity and the needs expressed, this allocation could be extended to external structures.

THE RUPTURE TECH CONSULTING COMPANY, PARTNER OF THE OPERATION

Rupture Tech Consulting, offered to put its expertise to the benefit of this operation. The three co-founders, André Venzal, Guillaume Painsecq and Julien Gonzalez, have thus developed several prototypes to obtain a model allowing the optimization of the production of each machine and the consumption of raw materials. Ten printers were installed by this team in a 120 m² room provided free of charge by Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole. The total production capacity is around 1,500 to 2,000 units per week.

Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole and the City bought visors:

  • – Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole bought 2,000 Visors
  • – The City of Montpellier has purchased 2,000 Visors

THE METROPOLE CENTRALIZES INITIATIVES ON THE TERRITORY

This initiative is part of the coordination unit for the production of personal protective equipment that Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole has set up in the context of the current health crisis.

In addition to managing the production of personal protective equipment by the farm of 3D printers, the cell’s actions also relate to the identification of internal needs in the City and the Metropolis, as well as those of satellite structures and external entities. It also works to identify those involved in the production of personal protective equipment, in order to assess and optimize the production potential throughout the territory.
