10 November 2022 – At COP27, Vice Chair Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe of Banjul (the Gambia) will participate in the panel on ‘Financing low carbon, resilient and inclusive cities through multi-level governance’ hosted by the World Resources Institute (WRI). More sustainable, inclusive cities are a $24 trillion opportunity. This event will bring together experts and practitioners to share examples of how to effectively finance low- carbon, resilient and inclusive cities through multi-level action. Cities are not only critical to delivering a green and just transition while limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees, they also offer an enormous economic opportunity. However, success requires collaboration. Cities, regions, national governments and investors must work together to not only increase access to finance but target it innovatively and strategically.
The session will be hosted by Ani Dasgupta, WRI President & CEO, and focus on overcoming the barriers to financing low carbon, resilient and inclusive cities through multi-level cooperation. A panel of leaders from local, regional, and national governments as well as other civil society leaders and experts will debate and share examples and experiences of how stronger collaboration can bring about low-carbon, resilient, inclusive, and prosperous cities.
