The Global Parliament of Mayors (GPM) is pleased to announce the next edition of its City Dialogue Webinar Series, titled “Empowering Cities from an American Viewpoint.” The webinar will take place on Monday, 24 November 2025, at 17:00 CET and will feature a conversation between Bryan K. Barnett, Chair of the Global Parliament of Mayors and Mayor of Rochester Hills (Michigan, USA), and Professor Eric Corijn, the GPM’s Director of Policy and Research.
This special edition marks Mayor Barnett’s first public dialogue as Chair of the GPM Executive Committee and will offer valuable insights into local governance, urban leadership, and the evolving role of cities in global affairs.
The conversation will explore Mayor Barnett’s long-standing experience as Mayor of Rochester Hills, a city recognized for its innovation and strong community values, and how mayors are positioned within the U.S. political system, their electoral base, and local competences. It will also address the relationship between U.S. cities and the federal government, highlighting issues of local autonomy, citizen participation, and the challenges municipal leaders face in the current political climate. As the newly elected Chair of the Global Parliament of Mayors, Mayor Barnett will further share his vision for strengthening the role of cities in global governance and advancing the GPM’s mission.
This City Dialogue Webinar will offer participants a unique opportunity to hear from one of America’s most experienced local leaders and to explore how U.S. city governance connects to global urban challenges.
