Cities play a crucial role in bringing fundamental rights to life. While the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights provides a common framework for protecting rights across the European Union, it is at the local level that many of these principles are translated into concrete policies, services, and everyday practices that affect citizens directly.
On 31 March, as a part of the DeCiDE project the GPM & HRCN will host the webinar “From Charter to Local Action: The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in Cities.” This online discussion will bring together city leaders and experts to explore how municipalities are implementing the Charter locally and how they can strengthen communication and engagement with residents around fundamental rights.
The webinar will provide a collaborative and practical space for cities to showcase their experiences, share lessons learned, and discuss approaches to integrating the Charter into local policy. By highlighting concrete examples, the discussion will demonstrate how cities can promote transparency, participation, and stronger community relationships, while reinforcing their role as key actors in protecting and advancing human rights.
The session will be moderated by Eric Corijn, Director of Policy & Research at the Global Parliament of Mayors. Speakers will respond to guiding questions from the moderator. After the panel discussion, the floor will be opened for questions from the audience, allowing participants to engage directly with the speakers.
