The Global Parliament of Mayors (GPM) and CityNet have formed a strategic partnership to bolster the resilience of cities worldwide. This collaboration, formalized through a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at CityNet’s 44th Executive Committee Meeting (18th – 20th November) in Iloilo, Philippines, aims to support mayors and local governments in Europe and Asia as they navigate pressing urban challenges.

CityNet, a prominent association with the support of UNESCAP, UNDP and UN-Habitat, dedicated to sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region, has been at the forefront of urban innovation since 1987. With a network of over 160 municipalities, NGOs, private companies, and research centers, CityNet connects actors, exchanges knowledge, and builds commitment to create more sustainable and resilient cities. Through capacity building, city-to-city cooperation, and tangible projects, CityNet empowers its members to address the impacts of climate change, disasters, and other challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The GPM and CityNet partnership is poised to significantly impact urban development worldwide through several key areas of collaboration. By regularly exchanging information on urban challenges, both organizations will foster a deeper understanding of global trends and local nuances. Joint events and conferences will provide platforms for knowledge sharing, networking, and the development of innovative solutions. Moreover, the sharing of best practices and tools will accelerate the adoption of effective strategies for urban resilience and sustainability. To ensure ongoing progress and identify emerging opportunities, both organizations have committed to quarterly meetings to evaluate their collective achievements and chart future directions.

By joining forces, GPM and CityNet are collaborating to build a more resilient and sustainable urban future. Through sharing knowledge, resources, and best practices, this partnership will empower cities to tackle pressing challenges and improve the lives of their citizens. Together, we are shaping a more secure, equitable, and sustainable future for all.
