7 October 2020 – The Daily Board agrees to endorse the Mannheim-message of ICLEI Europe on Local Green Deals for a carbon neutral, sustainable and inclusive Europe.

With the Mannheim Message2020 published on 21 September 2020, the mayors and decision-makers of Europe’s cities and regions are responding to the European Green Deal in the context of Mannheim2020 – the 9th European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns, held between 30 Sept and 2 October 2020.

The Mannheim Messages calls for core systemic changes and key policy shifts needed to bring about transformation for a resilient, inclusive and sustainable Europe. Further, it calls for local authorities to be key partners in the development of Local Green Deals and the European Green Deal, to be used as key tools to facilitate this transformation. The document builds on the legacy and principles of the Aalborg Charter (1994), the Aalborg Commitments (2004) and the Basque Declaration (2016) and reflects the aim of integrated sustainable urban and regional development, as supported by the Leipzig Charter.
