Invitation Letter
by Champion Climate Mayors

At the project kickoff, GPM Champion Climate Mayors Rohey Malick Lowe (Banjul, the Gambia) and Mayor Ricardo Rio (Braga, Portugal) will share their first-hand perspectives about the importance of addressing climate change and climate-related migration. Why have these Mayors decided to become Champion Climate Mayors and why should other Mayors join? They will address the importance of cooperation between mayors in order to have a global impact. Together with the research team Professor Sheila Foster (Georgetown University) and Associate Professor Amal Amakrane (Columbia University) they will present how people-centred action through local communities can address climate change-related migration, and support Mayors in their efforts to develop innovative urban responses to climate change and climate-related migration.
