19 May, 2022 – The GPM wants to extend its congratulations to the Mayor of Banjul (the Gambia) and Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of the Global Parliament of Mayors, Madam Rohey Malick Lowe, who was recently appointed as President for the West African subregion for the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa (REFELA). The election took place on May 18th in the Kenyan port city of Kisumu.

Mayor Lowe has stated: “I am proud and priviledged to hold the role of President of REFELA. I will strive to honor this network and ensure that REFELA’s values are represented and celebrated all over the world”.

Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe joined the GPM in 2019 and since then has been an active member of the organization. On November 2021, Mayor Lowe was appointed as Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of the GPM and became a member of the Daily Board.

The GPM is proud to work with Mayor Lowe as advocate for women’s empowerment, gender equality and strong local city leadership and looks forward to continue to strengthen the collaboration with Mayor Lowe and the city of Banjul.
