26 January 2023 – The Global Parliament of Mayors is excited to share that Mayor Mario Bolognari of Taormina (Sicily, Italy) has joined the organisation, as a designated member on behalf of the Sicilian Branch of ANCI.
Mayor Bolognari was elected in 2018, winning by a large margin. He had previously served as Mayor of Taormina from 1993 to 2002 as well. Taormina is a small hilltop town with around 11,000 inhabitants on the east coast of Sicily. It sits near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. The town is known for the Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco-Roman theater still used today.
Since June 2022, the Sicilian Branch of the ANCI is an Associated Partner of the GPM and invited to participate with two designated mayors in the GPM. In December 2022, the Daily Board has already approved the membership of Mayor Giuseppe Monteleone of Carini.
