The Global Parliament of Mayors has an opening for a Junior Programme Officer based in The Hague, the Netherlands.

The GPM Secretariat

The Global Parliament of Mayors (GPM) is an international platform of, by and for mayors. The GPM Secretariat is currently hosted by the municipality of The Hague and housed within its City Hall. The Secretariat supports the Executive Committee which is made up of mayors throughout the world. The Chair of the Executive Committee is Mayor Ricardo Rio of Braga, Portugal. The GPM Secretariat coordinates all activities and communications relating to the GPM, oversees the membership administration and is responsible for the financial management of the association. The Secretariat is managed by an Executive Director and a Senior Programme Officer.

The vacancy

The GPM is offering a full time paid position. The Junior Programme Officer is expected to be able to work independently, accurately, be stress-resistant and result-oriented. This position is strongly communications based, writing of formal letters and emails, monitoring of external relations in a city diplomacy environment and contributing to the online communications of the GPM. The Junior Programme Officer will play an important role in the organization’s external communication, including website and social media management, as well as a crucial project on the implementation of human rights in cities funded by the European Union.

Candidate profile

  • Good social and communicative skills within a multicultural context. The Junior Programme Officer is expected to be assertive and take up incoming correspondence by own initiative.
  • Prior professional or internship experience with an NGO or international organizations will be considered a plus.
  • Strong affinity and passion for writing: experience writing of articles, newsletters, informative letters, and web-entries.
  • To be considered, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the English Language. The work language of the GPM is English.
  • Word, Excel, and Google docs skills are required. Mailchimp, WordPress and graphic design are an asset.
  • Candidates should have a masters degree in a relevant field, such as politics, international relations or similar
  • Natural affinity and sensitivity for administrative and political environments, demonstrable interest in the global position of cities particularly about multilevel governance.

Tasks

  • Coordinate communication between the GPM, its members and external partners.
  • Managing incoming questions from interested mayors and organisations.
  • Contribute to the (online) communication of the GPM.
  • Contribute to the recruitment strategy of the GPM.
  • Contribute to the monthly newsletters and online news items.
  • Assist in the general management of GPM website, social media channels and online content, mainly Twitter, Linkedin and Facebook.
  • Contribute to other communication and administrative work that will develop within the GPM Secretariat.

  • A Full Time Salary of around 2370 EUR. The employee is entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of his gross annual salary.
